The museum ship “Luise” is a coastal freighter that is completely

equipped and to which visitors have full access. It is especially

popular with techno-freaks and children. Up until the 1960’s, this

motorised sailing boat, first launched in1906, was used in the

waters around Rügen to supply the island population with all their

vital needs. The display in the cargo hold includes the goods

transported and the original hot-bulb engine among the exhibits.

The forecastle gives an insight into the cramped ving conditions

of the coastal sailors.

The large open air display directly adjoining the south beach of

Göhren contains many more exhibits: navigational aids, fishing

boats and trawlers as well as articles relating to fishing, sail

making and ship building.
