In
the historical
heart of the neighbouring village of Middelhagen, the School Museum in
the old caretaker’s house has been providing information since 1986
about the school situation on the Mönchgut in the past. Apart from the
classroom, you can visit the flat of the caretaker, music director and
headmaster of the village school with its living room, bedroom, office
and kitchen. The classroom of this one-class school displays rollable
wall posters, boards for teaching reading, a calculator and preserved
animals. The various school benches document the development typical of
different periods.
Historical lessons are
conducted regularly in the classroom and constitute a special experience
for children and adults. The “Hallenhaus” (house in hallform – 17th
century) beside the School Museum contains an exhibition on the life and
conditions in he village and on the local architecture. The
“Altenteilerhaus” (retirement house) section, known as the “Breede”
house after the proprietors, was rebuilt in 1992 according to its
original dimensions and contains alternating exhibitions.
